“You got how many hits?” My roommate, Jordan asks me, brushing strands of long red hair behind her ear and leaning in towards me.

“Ten thousand, just from that one outfit. I’m telling you this chick has the best stuff in Los Angeles, I don’t know how she gets it.”

“Are you sure it’s the outfit?” Jordan asks, skeptically. “Like, what if someone just linked back at you?”

I turn around my laptop to face her across our little wooden table in the middle of the coffee shop. On the screen there are rows and rows of numbers, traffic statistics for my blog.

“What am I looking at?” Jordan asks.

“The hits are coming from somewhere that’s blocked, and they’re coming fast. Seriously, this is the craziest thing I’ve ever seen.”

“Well are you getting messages about it? Any advertising sponsors hitting you up?”

Her words take a moment to settle and then snap me awake in a flash of surprise and embarrassment.

“Oh my god.” I tell her, “I haven’t even checked my email today.”

I open up a new window and quickly type my password as someone shouts out “Amy!” from behind the counter. My attention is elsewhere, though, and I’m so shocked at what I find staring back at me from the screen that my own name doesn’t even register when she calls it again. I stare at the collection of finely tuned pixels in disbelief.

“You want me to get that?” Jordan laughs.

“Um,” I look up at her. “Yeah.”

My email is full of unread messages from various fashion blogs and, even more shockingly, companies looking to advertise. I start to click though them to make sure they’ve got the right person and I’m instantly blow away by the financial offers being tossed out.

There’s a loud pinging sound as a new message appears at the top of my inbox from Beth’s Vintage.

Jordan sits back down and places a latte in front of me. “What’s up?”

I open Beth’s message and read aloud. “Hey Amy, the photos look really fantastic. Love the looks you put together from the store. I hope you don’t mind but I passed your info along to some of the fashion connections that I have and they’d really love to meet you.”

“Who are these connections?” Jordan asks, wide eyed. “Do you think that’s where all this traffic is coming from?”

“Oh course it is,” I pause for a moment, considering what to do next. Beth’s left her number at the bottom of the email and asked that I call him.

“Is she cute?” Jordan asks.

“Come on!” I shout defensively. “Why does that matter?” I let it stew for a moment and then finally answer quietly, “But yeah, she’s really cute.”

“Then fucking call her right now.”

I pull out my phone and dial the number, then lean back into my chair and wait as it rings. She picks up a few moments later.

“Beth here,” she says.

“Hey!” I stammer, suddenly confused by my girlish shyness. “I just got your email.”

“Amy! Hey, how’s it going?”

“Really good, I’ve just received a bunch of advertising offers, some big blogs are republishing my last few posts, it’s going crazy.
